The Minister of Moudjahidine and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tacherift, presided on Tuesday in Batna over the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the martyrdom of the hero Mostefa Ben Boulaïd (1917-1956).
The ministerial delegation visited the village of Nara in the commune of Menaa, where a wreath of flowers was laid before the memorial stele erected in tribute to the Shahid (martyr). The Fatiha of the Holy Quran was recited in memory of the martyrs, and the national anthem was played in the presence of the wali of Batna, Riadh Benahmed, moudjahidine (veterans), and citizens.
In his address at the Nara multipurpose hall, the minister noted that "Mostefa Ben Boulaïd is a great symbol who, alongside his companions, embodied the spirit of the nation with a high sense of sacrifice on the path to freedom and dignity, deserving all titles of glory."
He also added that "this commemoration is an opportunity to renew the oath, and the victorious Algeria of today, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is proud of the gains and achievements of its sons."
The occasion included a visit to the Shahid's home in the commune of Arris, which has been transformed into a history museum. The museum preserves documents and photos tracing the hero's journey up to the night of his martyrdom on March 22 to 23, 1956, at Djebel Lazreg.
On-site, the minister received explanations about the museum and its contents before paying tribute to the Shahid's family, represented by his son Abdelatif and his daughter Nabila, as well as to the Mujahid Mohamed Athamna.
Moudjahidine, rights holders, and student winners of competitions organized by the Directorate of Education on the life and struggle of the Chahid Mostefa Ben Boulaïd were also honored on this occasion.
