The China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced on Friday that the Chang'e-7 lunar probe is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2026 .
The Chang'e-7 probe has been transported to the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern island province of Hainan. Pre-launch tests are currently being conducted, with the CNSA confirming that launch site facilities are in good condition and all preparations are proceeding as planned.
The Chang'e-7 mission aims to achieve significant breakthroughs in key lunar surface technologies, such as high-precision soft landings. Additionally, the mission will feature advanced capabilities including legged movement, jumping, and the exploration of permanently shadowed craters.
The mission will adopt a comprehensive exploration approach, encompassing orbiting, landing, roving, and jumping, to conduct environmental and resource surveys of the lunar South Pole. International cooperation will also be a key component of the mission.
Furthermore, the CNSA stated that China will deeply integrate its resources and capabilities with its current manned lunar landing programs and unmanned lunar exploration projects to enhance the overall effectiveness of the nation's lunar exploration efforts.
