The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lebanon, Blerta Aliko, affirmed that the organization’s role extends beyond providing direct humanitarian aid, focusing instead on empowering state institutions and reinforcing national systems to ensure an effective and sustainable response to crises.

In a statement, the UNDP Resident Representative noted that Lebanon is facing a "perfect storm of overlapping crises" which has led to widespread displacement and exerted mounting pressure on an already fragile system. She explained that the UNDP is supporting the response by enhancing national coordination, assisting first responders, and strengthening the capacities of local institutions, in parallel with preparations for the recovery phase.

She further detailed that the Programme's efforts during the crisis include supporting the disaster risk management system and the national operations room through the use of real-time data, as well as assisting Civil Defense and firefighting teams. Additionally, the UNDP is providing support to municipalities and essential services such as water, energy, and waste management.

Blerta Aliko also highlighted the launch of a national campaign, in cooperation with the Ministry of Information, to foster solidarity. This initiative is being carried out alongside preparations for the recovery phase through damage assessments and coordination with partners, despite the suspension of approximately 50 percent of the UNDP's programs due to security challenges and access constraints, amidst growing needs and continuous pressure on resources.
