Sixteen people, mostly students, were injured Tuesday in a shooting at a technical high school in the Wilaya of Sanliurfa, southeastern Turkey, the local governor announced.
Governor Hasan Sildak, who visited the scene, told the press that twelve individuals are currently "receiving medical treatment."
The assailant, a former student at the institution born in 2007, turned the weapon on himself and is deceased, the governor added.
According to the public broadcaster TRT, citing the governorate, ten students and four teachers are among the wounded. The severity of their injuries has not yet been specified.
Private news agency DHA and several Turkish media outlets reported that the assailant was armed with a hunting shotgun. Images broadcast by local media showed students fleeing the school, where a significant police presence, at least one armored vehicle, and multiple ambulances were deployed.
"He first opened fire randomly in the courtyard, then inside the building," reported a witness cited by the private news agency IHA.
