Somali Minister of Information Daoud Aweis expressed on Sunday evening his country's categorical rejection of the Zionist entity's announcement regarding the appointment of a diplomatic envoy to the Somali region of "Somaliland," describing the decision as an "aggressive act" aimed at fueling tensions in the Horn of Africa.
The Somali minister described the measure as "a blatant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity," as well as "an indicator of continued assaults on the Somali state," emphasizing that his country "is a sovereign state whose unity cannot be compromised."
He indicated that the Somali government has informed the international community of its position of rejection, considering the Zionist decision an "aggressive act" aimed at provoking tensions in the region.
Mr. Aweis specified that his country "enjoys broad support from the United Nations, the African Union, the League of Arab States, as well as several countries," affirming that these parties "share Somalia's position of rejection."
Furthermore, he warned that these measures could lead to further tensions in the region, stressing that "Somalia has suffered enough from conflicts and civil wars, and is currently focusing on security challenges, notably the fight against terrorist groups" such as Al-Shabaab and the Islamic State.
It should be recalled that the Zionist entity announced in late December the recognition of "Somaliland" as a so-called "independent and sovereign state," a decision widely rejected by the Somali government and people, who viewed it as a direct blow to Somalia's sovereignty and national unity.
This announcement also triggered Arab, regional, and Islamic rejection, as it is perceived as a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security, as well as to the established principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
