General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (ANP), received General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), on Tuesday at the ANP Staff Headquarters.
The reception ceremony began with the national anthem and military honors rendered to General Dagvin Anderson by detachments from the various forces of the People's National Army.
The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Land Forces, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, the commanders of the various forces and the Republican Guard, the Director of the Cabinet at the Ministry of National Defense, department heads, the Inspector General of the Army, and central directors from the Ministry of National Defense and the ANP Staff, alongside members of the American delegation. Both parties held talks regarding the state of military cooperation between the two countries and exchanged analyses and viewpoints on issues of common interest.
During the meeting, General Chanegriha delivered a speech in which he welcomed the AFRICOM Commander and his accompanying delegation, emphasizing that this visit undoubtedly represents a new milestone in supporting the path of bilateral cooperation:
"At the outset, I am pleased to welcome you and your accompanying delegation to the Headquarters of the People's National Army Staff on the occasion of your visit to Algeria. This visit will certainly constitute a new link in supporting our bilateral cooperation, particularly following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of military cooperation in January 2025.
In this context, our two countries seek, through deepening our strategic dialogue, to promote our military cooperation, especially by implementing the dimensions of this Memorandum of Understanding and achieving its goals. This will enable us to establish the foundations of a strong and sustainable partnership based on mutual respect that serves the interests of both countries."
General Chanegriha further emphasized that Algeria continues, under the mandate of the African Union, to work on strengthening the mechanisms of a collective continental approach aimed at unifying efforts to eliminate terrorism and violent extremism in all its dimensions:
"Algeria continues, under the mandate of the African Union, to work on strengthening the mechanisms of a collective continental approach aimed at joining efforts to eliminate the phenomenon of terrorism and violent extremism at all levels.
Through this active and dynamic role, Algeria has been able to launch several initiatives at the continental level via a multi-dimensional security approach to combat terrorism. This is primarily based on activating an African financial fund dedicated to this purpose, establishing an African list of individuals and entities involved in criminal acts, and drafting an African arrest warrant.
I must also commend the annual reports presented by Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defense, in his capacity as the African Union Coordinator for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism."
For his part, General Dagvin Anderson expressed his happiness at visiting Algeria and his continuous aspiration to work on strengthening military cooperation relations. He praised the level of multi-dimensional coordination between the two parties, as well as the contribution of the People's National Army to establishing security and peace in the region.
At the end of the meeting, both parties exchanged symbolic gifts, and the AFRICOM Commander signed the Golden Book of the People's National Army Staff.
