The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, received on Tuesday in Algiers the Advisor and Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cooperation in Transport, Igor Levitin. Mr. Levitin is currently on a working visit to Algeria accompanied by a high-level delegation, according to a ministry statement.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Algeria, Alexey Solomatin, and central ministry officials, both parties reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the transport field. They emphasized the importance of strengthening partnership relations, particularly in maritime, air, and rail transport, to keep pace with the economic dynamics witnessed by both countries.
Mr. Sayoud highlighted Algeria's significant capacities in maritime transport, specifically port infrastructure, which is undergoing rapid development and a comprehensive modernization process reflecting the qualitative transformation within the maritime transport sector.
Mr. Levitin was accompanied by the Chairman of the Russia-Algeria Business Council, an advisor to the Office of the President of the Russian Federation, and the Deputy General Manager of a Russian group specializing in transport and logistics, the statement added.
Furthermore, Mr. Sayoud showcased the Algerian experience in the field of railways through several major projects, such as the Tindouf-Béchar-Oran line and the Eastern Mining line, in addition to the Algiers-Tamanrasset line project. This latter project is part of a comprehensive vision to connect various regions of the country and enhance economic development.
In the field of air transport, both sides discussed opportunities to develop cooperation and intensify coordination to enhance air connectivity and exchange expertise in this vital sector, the source noted.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss ways to develop cooperation in logistics through the exchange of expertise and experience, especially concerning the modernization of the sector, the digitalization of cargo processing operations, and the improvement of supply chains.
