Algeria marks World Press Freedom Day this Sunday, highlighting the significant achievements and gains realized by the national media in recent years. These milestones have strengthened the media's leading role in keeping pace with the stakes of the current era and regional challenges, positioning the national press as a key actor in supporting state efforts and the trajectory of economic and social development. This role is primarily manifested through highlighting the various structural and strategic projects that the country is currently implementing.
In this context, Media Professor Dr. Mohamed Chihat stated to Algerian Radio’s Channel 1 this Sunday that the media plays a pivotal role within society, particularly in clarifying the state's political and strategic visions, as well as simplifying development policies to bring them closer to the citizen. He noted that the renaissance currently undertaken by Algeria—specifically in the field of valuing and processing raw materials, such as iron, alongside new explorations by Sonatrach—represents a model of economic transformation that requires effective media accompaniment.
For its part, the National Organization of Algerian Journalists praised the high level of media coverage, which it described as "distinguished," accompanying numerous major national projects. The organization stated that this reflects the awareness of the media community regarding the importance of the current phase.
In the same vein, the head of the organization, Slimane Abdouche, explained that media accompaniment of the state’s various efforts and national strategies supports the ambitious development path chosen by Algeria. He added that this approach is based on strengthening national economic capacities and accelerating the pace of major projects, which contributes to improving the living conditions of citizens.
The speaker emphasized that the efforts of the Algerian press, through its distinguished coverage of the various "New Algeria" workshops, reflect its commitment to keeping pace with the major transformations taking place in the country and consolidating its role as an essential partner in building a promising economic future.
