The Minister of Communication, Zouheir Bouamama, commended the efforts of the media community on Monday in Algiers, highlighting their growing role in supporting the comprehensive national development process led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He noted their contributions to strengthening national consciousness, informing public opinion, and protecting the nation.

In an address delivered during a ceremony marking World Press Freedom Day, presided over by the President of the Republic, the Minister emphasized ongoing efforts to "elevate our media system to levels that allow it to contribute effectively to this process led by the President, to consolidate the sources of strength within the nation's conscience, to enlighten public opinion, to protect our country, and to reinforce the pillars of its stability, security, and development."

In this regard, he lauded the President's support for the men and women of the media who "accompany the state's efforts to achieve success and meet challenges, particularly those related to highlighting our country's major achievements both at home and abroad, as well as their struggle—through word, image, and sound—against disinformation campaigns in defense of Algeria and its higher interests."

He also underscored the importance the President places on the "inseparable relationship between press freedom, as a fundamental human right and freedom that must be constantly strengthened, and the responsibility to uphold professionalism and ethics, which protect journalists from excesses and deviations." He further mentioned "the President's efforts to support and guarantee freedom of expression by expanding its scope to provide more space, free from pressure or restriction, except those dictated by ethics, laws, respect for national constants, national security requirements, and the higher interests of the country."

The Minister of Communication reaffirmed that "press freedom is not only a fundamental right of the journalist but a primary pillar of our democratic edifice and an important lever for strengthening the foundations of our institutional structure. It constitutes a true guarantee for a dynamic society, attached to its values, open to the world, and in step with its era."

Addressing the President of the Republic, he stated: "Today, in the process of deepening the reforms you initiated in the communication sector, we are working under your wise leadership to translate the new gains contained in the laws governing the media space into concrete reality, ensuring a free and responsible practice of the profession and reinforcing the citizen's constitutional right to professional and credible national information."

In this vein, the Minister mentioned the sector's efforts to finalize the legal and regulatory framework through the drafting of texts ordered by the President regarding the journalism profession and related trades. This includes the installation of regulatory authorities and the Higher Council for Journalistic Ethics. He also highlighted efforts in continuous training for journalists to develop their skills and enable them to better master Artificial Intelligence technologies.

He noted that "the ongoing reflection on adopting a new approach to strengthen modern, effective, and proactive government communication, adapted to digital transformations and meeting public service requirements, confirms the sector's strategic vision. This vision is based on strengthening the partnership between state institutions and national media, ensuring the citizen's right to reliable information and allowing our media to be better prepared to act as a central actor in the battle for public consciousness."

On this occasion, Mr. Bouamama affirmed that Algeria celebrates this day with pride, mirroring other nations, in view of the considerable progress made by the national press throughout a journey rich in achievements and challenges. He noted that Algerian journalists have accompanied the nation through all its stages and participated alongside citizens in its great battles and victories.

The Minister of Communication also expressed his gratitude and recognition to the members of the national media family "who stood with honor and dignity on the front lines against terrorism and obscurantism targeting the state and its institutions," paying tribute to the memory of journalists who fell as martyrs of duty, sacrificing their lives so that Algeria remains upright and proud, offering a profound lesson in patriotism.
