The President of the Republic of Algheria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed this Tuesday that the features of the “New and Victorious Algeria” are only complete with an active, independent, and prestigious constitutional justice system, ensuring the essence of individual and collective freedoms guaranteed by the country's Basic Law.

In a speech addressed to the participants of the 3rd International Forum on “The Role of Constitutional Review in Protecting Rights and Freedoms in Algeria and Comparative Systems,” delivered by the President of the Constitutional Court, Mrs. Leila Aslaoui, the President of the Republic reaffirmed that the vision of the “New and Victorious Algeria is only complete with an active, independent, and prestigious constitutional justice system. Such a system must possess the legal and procedural tools necessary to curb any violations and prevent any interpretations that might compromise the supremacy of the Constitution or undermine the essence of individual and collective freedoms guaranteed by the country's Basic Law.” Regarding Algeria's hosting of this international legal event, the President stated that it aims to “strengthen the structure of constitutional justice.” He added that it reflects “a renewal of the pledge made to the Algerian people to build a state based on truth and law—a state where no one is oppressed, a state whose pillars rest on the absolute sovereignty of the Constitution, and where the protection of fundamental rights and the promotion of freedoms are a steadfast doctrine flowing through the conscience and actions of all state institutions without exception.”

Regarding the theme of the forum, the President of the Republic explained that it “lies at the heart of a comprehensive reform project in Algeria, where constitutional review is not viewed as a dry technical tool, but rather as a major sovereign guarantee aimed—first and foremost—at strengthening the citizen's trust in the laws of their Republic.”

The President of the Republic concluded by stating that “Algeria today reaffirms its firm belief that the preservation and promotion of rights and freedoms are shared human values that transcend geographical borders.” He stressed that these values “require close international cooperation to develop safeguards for their protection in the face of the rapid challenges and profound transformations taking place across the entire world.”
