Participants at the 3rd International Conference on the Role of Constitutional Review in Protecting Rights and Freedoms in Algeria and Comparative Systems, held yesterday, Tuesday, in Algiers, unanimously praised Algeria's notable progress in constitutional justice, driven by the "positive and fruitful" reforms it has undertaken.

In this context, the President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Boulos Iskandar Fahmy, praised the experience acquired by the Algerian Constitutional Court, which ranks among "the most important in the Arab world."

After welcoming the cooperation between the Algerian and Egyptian constitutional courts through regional encounters and high-level meetings of African constitutional courts, the Egyptian official expressed his delight at the holding of this conference. He stated that it "comes at an international juncture that requires full coordination between Arab states."

For his part, the President of the Mauritanian Constitutional Council, Mr. Diallo Mamadou Bathia, indicated that the world today is "plagued by growing turmoil manifested by an increasing skepticism towards the rules of international law." This, he affirmed, requires countries in the region, including Algeria and Mauritania, to "pool their efforts to preserve the achievements of many years and prevent them from being wiped out."

He further praised the content of the address delivered by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the participants, viewing it as the "reflection of a collective awareness regarding the importance of strengthening the protection of rights, in light of current transformations."

Echoing this sentiment, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Dublin (Ireland), Mr. Oran Doyle, noted that the "positive and fruitful" legal and constitutional reforms initiated by Algeria are designed to "strengthen respect for rights and freedoms" and "expand opportunities for citizens to access justice," while highlighting the importance of enhancing coordination within judicial systems.

Scheduled to run until May 7, this 3rd International Conference is organized by the Constitutional Court, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
