Algiers has made its entry into the Top 50 of the global city rankings for mobile internet speed, achieving a historic climb of 68 places in just a few months, a press release from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications indicated on Sunday.
According to the latest monthly report from the global internet speed measurement platform "Ookla," which lists the best-performing cities in terms of speed, Algiers ranks 48th, thus joining the global Top 50, whereas it sat in 116th place just last September.
Thus, Algiers has succeeded in advancing 68 places in only a few months, including 11 places gained during the latest update.
According to the updated data from the global city index, "the mobile network in the capital reached a remarkable speed of 163.31 megabits per second (Mbps) for download speed, while the upload speed reached 24.30 Mbps, with a very low latency of 18 milliseconds," a key indicator reflecting "the performance and stability of the network."
This digital advancement "was not limited to mobile networks but also extended to fixed internet, with the capital recording an 11-place rise, boasting a download speed of 92.44 Mbps and an upload speed of 42.21 Mbps, thanks to the continuous expansion of fiber optic networks," the press release concluded.
