The Embassy of the United States of America in Algeria has highlighted the depth of Algerian-American diplomatic relations, recalling that they date back more than two centuries, with the arrival in Algiers, as early as 1797, of the first resident American Envoy.

"In 1797, the first resident American Envoy arrived in Algiers, following the appointment by President John Adams of Richard O'Brien as the first American diplomat in the country," the embassy stated in a post on its social media account.

"This step marked an important milestone in the beginnings of the American diplomatic presence and in the history of its relations in the Mediterranean," it added.

"American envoys have been present in Algeria for over two centuries, which is a testament to the importance of this relationship since its inception," the US embassy highlighted.
