The Italian government described as "unacceptable" on Wednesday the treatment of "Gaza flotilla" activists by the Zionist entity, following the broadcast of images relayed by Italian media showing the activists handcuffed and kneeling.
"It is unacceptable that these protesters, among whom are many Italian citizens, are subjected to treatment that undermines human dignity," stated Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, in a joint statement.
"The Italian government is immediately taking, at the highest institutional level, all necessary measures to secure the immediate release of the Italian citizens involved," the statement continued.
Rome "furthermore demands an apology for the treatment of these protesters and for the total disregard shown towards the explicit requests of the Italian government" and announces the summoning of the ambassador of the Zionist entity in Rome, the same source specified.
Around fifty ships had left Turkey last week with the objective of making a new attempt to break the blockade imposed by the Zionist occupation on the Gaza Strip, which has been ravaged by two years of genocidal aggression.
