The National Public Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Oran (MAMO) recently received a donation consisting of 94 sculptures and 11 paintings by visual artist Abdelkader Agad, the cultural institution announced on Saturday.
Museum Director Djamel-Eddine Barka said in a statement to the APS that this donation, offered by artist Abdelkader Agad, a native of the wilaya of Mostaganem and currently residing in Germany, will enrich the museum's permanent art collection. He noted that the donated works are distinguished by their high artistic and aesthetic value.
He added that this initiative is the largest donation the museum has received since its inauguration in 2017. He believes it will help preserve and pass on the artist's legacy to future generations through MAMO, which has previously received several donations of visual artworks by renowned artists over the years.
As part of a tribute to Abdelkader Agad, Barka revealed that the museum is currently producing a documentary dedicated to his artistic career, particularly his work in marble sculpture.
Plans are also underway to dedicate a permanent exhibition space to this artistic donation, featuring an exhibition design tailored to contemporary sculptures. This will allow the public to discover the artist's work and trace the various stages of his creative journey.
Born in Relizane in 1938, Abdelkader Agad is a prominent figure in the Algerian art scene. He has exhibited his work on numerous occasions, both in Algeria and abroad.
