An exhibition showcasing African culinary expertise through iconic dishes from several countries across the continent was inaugurated on Sunday in Algiers in celebration of World Africa Day.

Inaugurated at the Moufdi-Zakaria Palace of Culture by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, alongside the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, the exhibition brought together around twenty exhibitors representing various African countries.

Sofiane Chaib and Malika Bendouda visited the various stands offering tastings of traditional African cuisine.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the exhibition, Chaib said that the event, organized by "the African group of ambassadors accredited in Algiers," is a cultural activity with an African dimension that highlights "the richness and diversity of African culinary heritage."

In addition to the Algerian stand, which featured traditional dishes widely popular in Algeria and around the world — notably "Chekhchoukha" and the famous couscous, inscribed by UNESCO in 2020 on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — the exhibition also showcased the culinary expertise of other African countries such as Senegal, Zimbabwe, Niger, Burundi, Angola, Egypt, and Sudan.

A wide array of authentic dishes that are highly popular in their respective countries and across the continent were offered to the public, who were invited to sample traditional dishes with African flavors.
