The wilaya of Boumerdes has been allocated a quota of 60 tons of bluefin tuna for the 2026 fishing season, according to a source from the wilaya's Directorate of Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture.

In a statement to APS this week, the sector's director, Kadri Cherif, explained that the licensed quantity of bluefin tuna allocated to the wilaya has increased from 54 tons in 2025 to 60 tons for the current season.

The director noted that the quota allocated to the wilaya falls within the national tuna fishing campaign for the current season, which officially launched at the beginning of May and will continue until July 1.

The wilaya is participating in the fishing campaign, which was launched from the port of Dellys in the east, with a single vessel measuring 35 meters in length, according to the same source.

It is worth noting that the wilaya's vessel is participating for the fifth consecutive year in the national campaign. The vessel designated for fishing the wilaya's allocated quota was built at the private "Corinav" shipyard located at the port of Zemmouri El Bahri.

The wilaya has nine private shipyards specializing in the construction and maintenance of vessels, spread across the ports of Dellys, Zemmouri El Bahri, and Cap Djenet, in addition to a shipyard specializing in the construction of tuna fishing vessels.

The wilaya of Boumerdes counts 6,015 fishermen active across various fishing trades and professions, out of a total of 7,431 jobs provided by the sector overall in both direct and indirect occupations.
