Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Saturday denounced the "dangerous and unprecedented escalation" by the Zionist entity against the Lebanese people, calling for a ceasefire without delay.

"In light of the dangerous and unprecedented escalation by the Zionist entity in recent days, it is necessary to intensify political and diplomatic efforts to achieve a rapid and real ceasefire," the Prime Minister said in a televised address to the Lebanese people.

"The Zionist entity is waging a policy of scorched earth and collective punishment," destroying "cities and villages, and forcing their inhabitants into exodus," he added, asserting that this "will bring it neither security nor stability."

Referring to the direct negotiations with the Zionist entity underway since April, he stated that their outcome was "not guaranteed." "But they are the least costly path for our country and our people," he said.

The toll of the Zionist aggression against Lebanon stands at 3,355 martyrs and 10,095 injured since March 2, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
