Death of Sheikh Si El-Hadj Mohand Tayeb, Translator of the Meanings of the Holy Quran into the Amazigh Language

The moudjahid and scholar Sheikh Si El-Hadj Mohand Tayeb Ben Ali, known for his translation of the meanings of the Holy Quran into the Amazigh language, passed away on Saturday in Tizi-Ouzou at the age of 92, it was learned on Sunday from the Wilaya Directorate of Religious Affairs and Wakfs.

A leading scholarly and national figure, the deceased dedicated his life to serving religion, the homeland, and the Amazigh language. He held several responsibilities within national religious bodies and left his mark on the field of education, as well as in promoting the values of Islam, tolerance, and moderation.

In this painful ordeal, the Minister of Moudjahidine and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tacherift, offered his sincere condolences and feelings of deep compassion to the family of the deceased, praying to God Almighty to grant him His Holy Mercy and welcome him into His Vast Paradise.

For his part, the Rector of Djamaâ El Djazaïr, Sheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al-Kacimi Al-Hassani, presented his sincere condolences following the passing of the eminent Sheikh Si El-Hadj Mohand Tayeb Ben Ali, after "a rich journey in the service of religion, knowledge, and the education of generations."

The Rector, who praised the scholarly and patriotic values of the deceased, indicated that with his passing, Algeria loses "a great figure of knowledge and patriotism, as well as a man who dedicated his life to scholarship, preaching, and reform."

The remains of the deceased will be laid to rest this afternoon at the M’douha cemetery in Tizi-Ouzou.
