Algerian athlete Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki achieved a new national record in the triple jump competition yesterday, Friday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, with a jump reaching 17.67 meters on his third attempt, during the seventh stage of the 2026 Diamond League athletics meeting.

The Algerian champion had kicked off his competition with a jump of 16.83 meters, before improving to 17.31 meters, and then to 17.67 meters, ultimately securing third place.

The current world champion, Pedro Pichardo of Portugal, took first place with a jump of 17.71 meters achieved on his second attempt, while second place went to Jamaica's Jordan Scott with a jump of 17.69 meters recorded on his first attempt, ahead of Triki by just two centimeters.

The Algerian triple jump record (men's senior category) had been held by the same athlete, Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki, since the Tokyo 2021 Olympics in Japan, with a jump of 17.43 meters. He had equaled this record on June 10 of this year during the Oslo meeting, within the same 2026 Diamond League competitions, where he also finished the contest in third place with a jump of 17.43 meters.
