The Swiss national team completed the lineup of teams qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup by defeating its Colombian counterpart 4–3 on penalties this Wednesday, in the final match of the round of 16 held at Vancouver Stadium in Canada.
Both teams ended the match goalless in both regular and extra time, following a series of missed opportunities at certain stages of the game and a tight defensive performance at others. They ultimately resorted to a penalty shootout, which went in favor of the Swiss team, who converted four penalties against three for their Colombian opponent.
With this result, the Swiss national team will face its Argentinian counterpart in the quarterfinals.
