The English national team qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating its Mexican counterpart 3–2 in the round of 16 match held at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, setting up a clash with the Norwegian national team in the next round.
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for England in the 36th minute before returning to add a second goal two minutes later, while Julián Quiñones reduced the deficit for Mexico in the 42nd minute, ending the first half with a 2–1 lead for the English team.
Despite being a man down following the dismissal of defender Jarell Quansah in the 53rd minute, captain Harry Kane managed to extend the lead by scoring the third goal from a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Raúl Jiménez scored a second goal for Mexico in the final minutes, but the hosts were unable to find an equalizer.
The English national team will face Norway next Sunday in the quarterfinals, after the latter reached the same stage for the first time in its history by defeating Brazil 2–1.
