ALGIERS - The Ministry of Health urged the public in a statement yesterday, Wednesday, to follow essential preventive measures in the face of rising temperatures to avoid potential health complications.
"In light of the rising temperatures, the Ministry of Health recalls preventive measures, especially for children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses," the source specified. It recommended "avoiding going out during the hottest hours, preferring to go out early in the morning or in the evening, wearing light and loose clothing, staying in the shade, drinking enough water, and avoiding drinks that are highly sweetened or rich in caffeine."
The statement added that it is also advisable to "keep shutters and windows closed when the outdoor temperature is higher than the indoor temperature, and to avoid outdoor physical activities."
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health warned of "symptoms such as headaches, intense thirst, nausea, hot, red, and dry skin, as well as mental confusion," explaining that these signs could "indicate heatstroke." In such cases, it recommended "placing the person in a cool place, giving them water to drink, and cooling them down with fresh water or a damp cloth."
The Ministry of Health also assured that "all healthcare facilities and institutions are mobilized to manage any situation related to this heatwave."
