Algerian-German Economic Forum: Multiple Agreements and MoUs Signed Across Strategic Sectors

Several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) spanning promising strategic sectors were signed on Friday during the Algerian-German Economic Forum held in the German capital, Berlin.

Attended by senior officials, prominent business leaders, and investors from both nations, the forum witnessed the signing of a key MoU between Algeria’s state-owned energy giant Sonatrach and the German company VNG. The agreement initiates negotiations to renew their existing natural gas export contract and increase the volume of gas exports.

In the automotive sector, German automaker Opel and Algeria's Halil Group signed an MoU to establish a framework for future cooperation and explore joint business and investment opportunities. Meanwhile, in the pharmaceutical sector, Saidal Group and Germany’s Boehringer Ingelheim signed an MoU for the local manufacturing of four strategic pharmaceutical molecules designed to treat diabetes, heart failure, and kidney diseases. They also agreed to develop an industrial partnership in research and development (R&D) as part of a bilateral scientific cooperation framework.

In the transport sector, five MoUs were inked between Germany’s Siemens Mobility, the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF), and Algiers Metro Enterprise (EMA), aimed at enhancing railway cooperation and developing innovative mobility solutions. The forum also saw EXWOR and Field Equipment and Services sign a commercial agreement to supply oilfield equipment to the Algerian and broader African markets. Additionally, EXWOR signed another commercial agreement with PSE Engineering GmbH to supply engineering technologies for the oil and gas sector.

In the field of veterinary medicine, VET AGRI PHARMA and EQUINEXT SOLUTIONS Deutschland signed a commercial agreement to supply industrial machinery and equipment for the establishment of a veterinary drug production unit in Algeria. Furthermore, OPEN DISK and EQUINEXT SOLUTIONS Deutschland signed an MoU to form a partnership that merges German expertise in engineering and industrial technology with OPEN DISK's local market knowledge to support industrial investors.

Moreover, Madar Group and Korber Technologies GmbH signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to protect confidential information exchanged regarding the Algerian Tobacco Company project. Madar Group also signed an evaluation cooperation agreement with Focke & Co. GmbH & Co. KG to assess the industrial needs of the Algerian Tobacco Company concerning cigarette packaging equipment, paving the way for future industrial and commercial cooperation.

 

In the renewable energy sector, the International Company Renewable Solar SARL and RCT Solutions signed a commercial agreement covering engineering studies and the supervision of a metallurgical silicon production plant, a critical component for the metallurgical and solar energy industries. In the hospitality sector, Boussouf Fatah Group signed a commercial franchise and management agreement with Fleming Hotels for a 600-bed tourist resort in the city of Touggourt.

Friction Tec and MOLL Batterien signed an addendum to their 2023 agreement, expanding their partnership in technology transfer for battery manufacturing. This was accompanied by a commercial agreement between the two companies to export batteries manufactured in Algeria under the MOLL brand license.

The robust list of agreements also included a memorandum of understanding between CITAL and Eisenbarth GmbH to supply specialized electronic components for the repair of tramway electronic equipment. Additionally, ASOR/ASCEND and VOLKSLIFT GmbH signed a partnership agreement to establish a joint venture for the local production of elevators under the VOLKSLIFT license.

SURFATEC SARL and Dieffenbacher Maschinenfabrik GmbH signed a commercial agreement to supply an automated lamination line and equipment for the production of melamine boards.

Furthermore, TECHNOCAST and HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. KG signed an MoU regarding technology transfer and the establishment of an assembly and packaging line for energy storage batteries. Finally, Frater Razes SPA and Groninger & Co. GmbH signed a commercial and partnership agreement to enhance biotechnology manufacturing capabilities through the acquisition of advanced equipment and the development of industrial projects.

As a reminder, this forum was held on the sidelines of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the Federal Republic of Germany, at the invitation of his friend, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
