The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Friedrich Merz, highlighted today, Thursday, in Berlin, his country's interest in developing economic relations with Algeria, as it seeks to open a new chapter in this field.
In a joint press conference with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the German Chancellor explained that his country is "greatly interested in economic relations with Algeria and wants to open a new chapter in these relations," adding: "We want to jointly strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, and there are several agreements that will be signed between German and Algerian companies on the sidelines of this official visit."
In this regard, the German Chancellor pointed out that both countries "aim to develop their bilateral relations through these agreements," noting that discussions touched upon "the investment climate in Algeria, legal guarantees, transparency, and the efficiency of administrative procedures."
After praising the historical relations between the two countries and their shared interest in regional stability, Mr. Friedrich Merz highlighted the two countries' efforts to enhance bilateral exchange and cooperation in the fields of energy and raw materials.
He noted, in this framework, that Algeria possesses "huge reserves" of raw materials, including natural gas, oil, and rare earth elements, pointing out that it "has made significant contributions in recent years to securing Europe's energy needs, ranking as the second-largest gas supplier to the European Union in 2025."
He also expressed his country's strong interest in energy cooperation, particularly through the SoutH2 Corridor, indicating that his country "will work with both Algeria and Italy to move forward with the implementation of the SoutH2 Corridor over the coming months."
