Algeria has deposited the instrument of ratification for the African Youth Charter with the African Union (AU) Commission, according to a statement from the Ministry of Youth on Sunday.

The statement explained that the ratification of the African Youth Charter "embodies the great importance the country’s high authorities, led by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accord to youth, as they are a fundamental pillar for building a 'Victorious Algeria' and a central focus of various public policies and national reforms."

It also reflects "Algeria's commitment to continuing its leading role within the African continent, based on its conviction that youth represent Africa's true wealth and that investing in their potential is a prerequisite for achieving development, peace, and prosperity."

The same source noted that the AU Commission welcomed this step, stating that it "confirms Algeria’s commitment to empowering African youth, in line with the aspirations of the AU Agenda 2063."

The African Youth Charter, adopted by the AU, is the first comprehensive continental legal framework concerning youth rights and duties. It obligates member states to develop policies and programs that ensure youth empowerment and their involvement in various fields of development.
