The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasized on Saturday the need to ensure every child is fully vaccinated against measles, urging parents to make sure their children receive their routine vaccinations.
The organization stated, in a post on its official social media accounts, that “since 1963, vaccines have protected people from this dangerous and highly contagious disease,” noting that “before then, measles caused 2.6 million deaths every year”.
In this regard, the organization emphasized that “there can be no complacency in this matter, and it must be ensured that every child receives full vaccination against measles”.
The WHO urged parents to “ensure their children receive routine vaccinations,” while expressing at the same time its “readiness to support countries in their efforts to expand vaccination coverage and strengthen surveillance and response to disease outbreaks”.
