The delegation of the Algeria-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group visiting Ankara engaged in intense activity yesterday, Monday, at the headquarters of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, including a series of talks, a press release from the National People's Assembly (APN) indicated.
The members of the delegation first visited the mausoleum of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, before heading to the headquarters of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Parliament). There, they held talks with members of a delegation from the Turkey-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by its president, Mr. Abdulkadir Ozel, the same source specified.
During this meeting, both parties reviewed the "historical relations" uniting the two countries, as well as the means to promote them in various fields, particularly the economic sphere. They praised the "growing dynamic" characterizing these relations, especially at the parliamentary level.
On this occasion, the members of the two Friendship Groups welcomed the recent visit made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the Republic of Turkey, which was marked by the holding of the first session of the Algerian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
Subsequently, the members of the APN delegation held talks with the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, chaired by Mr. Fuat Oktay, president of the committee.
The discussions focused on priority issues of common interest between the two countries, as well as developments on the international scene.
In this context, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian people can exercise their right to establish their State on the 1967 borders.
The two parties also discussed the situation in the Middle East, the Sahel, and Libya. In this regard, the president of the Algeria-Turkey Friendship Group, Mr. Messaoud Guesri, recalled Algeria's positions regarding these issues, reaffirming the need to prioritize peaceful solutions, while respecting the sovereignty of States and the principle of non-interference in their internal affairs.
He also recalled Algeria's attachment to the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination, calling for the Sahrawi people to be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations.
The delegation also met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mr. Numan Kurtulmus, who praised the positive outcomes of the President of the Republic's recent visit to Turkey. He also commended the participation of a large parliamentary delegation, led by Mr. Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the APN, in the proceedings of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held last April in Istanbul.
The delegation of the Algeria-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group is composed of the group's president and head of the delegation, Messaoud Guesri, its vice-president, Ahmed Sadok, and MPs Mohamed Mechegueg, Fatah Djanati, and Samira Barhoum.
