The President of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Azzouz Nasri, was received Wednesday in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, by the Vice-President of the Republic of Uganda, Ms. Jessica Alupo, according to a statement from the Council.
The meeting took place shortly before Mr. Nasri’s departure from the Ugandan capital after representing the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected Ugandan President, Mr. Yoweri Museveni.
The audience provided an opportunity to "exchange expressions of appreciation and reaffirm the depth of the fraternal and cooperative relations between Algeria and Uganda." Both parties emphasized their shared will to strengthen coordination and consultation on various issues of common interest, particularly within the African framework. Discussions also focused on enhancing multi-dimensional cooperation, including parliamentary ties, while renewing thanks to Uganda for its support of Algeria's candidate for the presidency of the Pan-African Parliament.
Mr. Azzouz Nasri conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic to the Ugandan Vice-President, reiterating "Algeria’s congratulations to the leadership and people of Uganda on the occasion of the re-election and inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni for a new term."
On the sidelines of his participation in this event, the President of the Council of the Nation had also met several African leaders and officials during a dinner hosted by the Ugandan President in honor of the heads of delegations.
These meetings included the President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mr. Brahim Ghali, the Vice-President of Uganda, Ms. Jessica Alupo, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, Ms. Lukia Nakadama, as well as the Special Envoy of the Ugandan President for the Great Lakes region and former Prime Minister, Mr. Amama Mbabazi.
