Algerian Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour was crowned with the silver medal in the balance beam event today, Sunday, as part of the second stage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, currently being held in the Azerbaijani city of Baku.
The Algerian obtained a score of 13.800, finishing behind the Japanese Okamura Mana (14.133), who took the gold medal, and ahead of the other Japanese gymnast Miyata Shoko (13.533), who won the bronze medal.
Nemour had been crowned with the gold medal yesterday, Saturday, in the uneven bars event, after achieving a score of 15.233 in the final, with a difficulty score of 7.0 and an execution score of 8.233.
This participation marks a new stop for the Algerian gymnast in the World Cup competitions, following the first stage hosted by the German city of Cottbus last February, during which she succeeded in winning the silver medal in the balance beam event.
Also participating in this stage was the young Algerian gymnast Louna Hammadi, aged 19, who is active in the Hyères club in France, in an experience aimed at gaining more expertise and highlighting the development of Algerian gymnastics on the international stage.
After the second stage in Baku, the competition will continue in Antalya, Turkey, then in Cairo, Egypt, and Osijek, Croatia, before concluding in Doha, Qatar, during the period from April 14 to 18.
According to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Olympic champions Kaylia Nemour, Rhys McClenaghan (Ireland), and Eleftherios Petrounias (Greece) are considered the most prominent participants in the Baku World Cup stage, amidst the presence of an elite group of stars, promising high-level competition.
