The barley harvest campaign kicked off on Monday at the site of the integrated Algerian-Qatari project "Baladna," located in the commune of Tamest (Southern Adrar wilaya).
This operation, which marks the initial harvest of the project's first experimental agricultural season, covers 300 hectares of pivot-irrigated land. Ali Al-Ali, Chairman of the Board of Baladna-Algeria, stated that this represents the first phase of the project, which also includes additional areas dedicated to fodder crops.
The "Baladna" project is being developed in the Adrar wilaya across three distinct phases: cereal farming, fodder production, cattle breeding, and an industrial component dedicated to powdered milk production.
Ali Al-Ali predicted that the project offers "promising" prospects for Algeria in this sector.
During the launch of the harvest campaign, the Wali of Adrar, Fodil Douifi, highlighted the mobilization of various relevant authorities to support and ensure the operation's success. This includes the provision of necessary equipment, such as harvesters and trucks, to transport the crop to storage facilities.
He also emphasized the significant importance placed by the country’s high authorities on this strategic project, describing it as "an essential pillar for achieving self-sufficiency and strengthening Algeria's food security."
