Granada CF manager José Rojo Martín provided a reassuring update this Sunday on the health of the club’s goalkeeper, Algerian international Luca Zidane. The player is recovering well following surgery, dismissing concerns that he might miss the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
Speaking to the website WinWin, the coach, commonly known as "Pacheta" stated: "Luca Zidane underwent a successful surgery a few days ago and is now recovering well. I do not believe he will face any issues that would prevent him from participating with the Algerian national team in the upcoming World Cup."
Zidane (27) underwent the procedure last Wednesday after sustaining a facial injury during a 4-2 home defeat against Almería in the 37th round of the Spanish Second Division.
On his official social media, Zidane posted: "The surgery was a success. I will be back on the pitch very soon; thank you for your messages of encouragement."
The injury occurred following a violent collision late in the match, forcing him to be replaced by backup goalkeeper Ander Astralaga.
Luca Zidane is considered the first-choice goalkeeper for the Algerian national team heading into the 2026 World Cup. Algeria is drawn in Group J alongside defending champions Argentina, Austria, and Jordan.
