Multiple cultural events kicked off this Saturday across the southern provinces under the slogan “Our Heritage... Our Civilization,” marking the celebration of Heritage Month (April 18 – May 18).

The celebratory events consist of organizing exhibitions across various cultural institutions, centers, and youth facilities, showcasing the tangible and intangible cultural heritage that abounds in these southern regions of the country.

These exhibitions provided an opportunity to showcase, for instance, the ancient Saharan palaces found in the region and their unique architectural designs. They also highlighted, through documents, archives, and photographs, the various archaeological sites and landmarks that characterize these areas, which have remained a distinct factor in sparking interest and attracting tourism.

The occasion also served as an opportunity to highlight several types of traditional folk music, whose echoes continue to resonate in the celebrations, weddings, and various social gatherings of the region's people.

A program has been established by the officials of the Culture and Arts sector, featuring a series of forums, intellectual seminars, study days, and workshops. These activities all center on promoting cultural heritage and emphasizing the importance of its preservation to safeguard the national identity.

In the same context, field trips were programmed to visit archaeological sites and landmarks, alongside organizing artistic concerts and recitals of folk poetry. Furthermore, cultural competitions for children focused on heritage were organized, culminating in the distribution of encouragement awards to the first-place winners, as indicated.
