More than 55 films produced in 20 countries will participate in the 6th edition of the Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival, scheduled to take place from April 24 to 30. Egyptian cinema will be the guest of honor, the festival commissioner, Mohamed Allal, announced yesterday, Sunday.
During a press conference held at the Seybouse International Hotel, Mr. Allal specified that this edition will feature the premiere screenings of 13 foreign films and 53 Algerian films.
Various schools of Mediterranean cinema will be represented at this annual event, he added, noting that the choice of Egyptian cinema as the guest of honor was made to celebrate the centenary of the legendary filmmaker Youssef Chahine (1926–2008).
According to the same source, the scheduled program includes the screening—as part of the official competition—of feature films, short films, and documentaries at the Azzedine Medjoubi Regional Theater and the Annaba Cinematheque, in addition to films shown out of competition.
The event will also host the "Annaba Cinema Industry Days," which attracted 212 film projects, as well as the launch of a "special competition" for films produced using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This category features participation from eight countries, "a move reflecting the festival's openness to modern technological transformations," added Mr. Allal.
