The esteemed Algerian film director, Mohamed Lamine Merbah, passed away today after a battle with a terminal illness, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy of creativity in both cinema and television.
The late filmmaker is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Algerian cinema. For decades, he contributed significantly to enriching the national cinematic landscape with distinguished works that have left a lasting mark on the audience's collective memory, most notably his iconic film "Beni Hendel".
Merbah was renowned for directing several highly acclaimed productions throughout his career. His prominent works include the films "Les Déracinés" (The Uprooted - 1976) and "Radhia" (1992), as well as the popular television series "Darna El Kdima" (Our Old House - 2008). Additionally, his early-career short film "Beni Hendel" remains a foundational piece of his extensive artistic repertoire.
