South African rider Reinardt Janse van Rensburg won the second stage of the 2026 Tour d’Algérie Cycliste (TAC 2026) this Saturday, covering a distance of 140 km between Oran and Tlemcen.
Following an intense and hard-fought race of over three and a half hours across the roads of the Oranie region, Janse van Rensburg distinguished himself by crossing the finish line first in a bunch sprint, recording a time of 3:34:56.
The member of the South African Tshenolo Pro Cycling Team was joined on the podium by his compatriot and teammate, Emile Van Niekerk, while third place went to the Belgian Yorben Lauryssen, the winner of the opening stage.
Despite the result, Lauryssen retains the overall leader's yellow jersey, maintaining a seven-second lead over South African Alexander Francois Erasmus (Tshenolo Pro Cycling Team) and a thirteen-second gap ahead of Latvia's Olivers Jēkabs Skrapcis (Energus Cycling Team).
On the Algerian side, the riders delivered a modest performance in this stage. The first Algerian to finish among the 101 competitors was Nasrallah Essemiani (Irb El Kantara) in 9th position (3:34:56). Hamza Mansouri (Madar Pro Cycling Team) finished 21st (3:35:03), while the 2025 TAC winner, Hamza Amari (Madar Pro Cycling Team), took 23rd place (3:35:03).
The 2026 edition of the TAC will continue this Sunday with a third stage of 139.1 km. Tailored for climbers, the route will take the peloton from Tlemcen to the Wilaya of Sidi Bel Abbès.
