SMARA (Sahrawi Refugee Camps) — The proceedings of the 10th Congress of the National Union of Sahrawi Women began Monday in the wilaya of Smara, within the Sahrawi refugee camps. The event features the participation of representatives from various Sahrawi institutions and wilayas, as well as foreign delegations and international organizations active in the field of women's rights.
In her opening address, the President of the National Union of Sahrawi Women, Chaba Sini Ibrahim, indicated that this Congress, named after the martyr Khadija Hamdi Abdallah, constitutes an important milestone in evaluating the union’s activities over recent years and in defining new perspectives aimed at strengthening the role of Sahrawi women across different fields, particularly in the face of challenges related to the Sahrawi cause.
She emphasized that the proceedings of this three-day meeting include workshops and debate sessions dedicated to mechanisms for women's empowerment and the enhancement of their contribution to the development and construction of society. The program also features the presentation of successful experiences in the fields of education, health, and social action.
The official further highlighted that this Congress serves as an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Sahrawi women to pursue their efforts, strengthen their presence in the development process, and consolidate their role in building social institutions.
The opening session saw the adoption of internal regulations, the examination of moral and financial reports, and the screening of a documentary tracing the record of the previous term.
The agenda also includes the election of a new leadership for the Union, as well as the adoption of recommendations aimed at bolstering the status of Sahrawi women and consolidating their participation in decision-making.
