The Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLACDE), Mr. Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans, emphasized yesterday, Tuesday, in Algiers, the organization's interest in cooperating with Algeria as a "key player in the global energy agenda." This statement followed an audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In a press statement after the meeting, which took place in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, and the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of diplomatic affairs, Mr. Amar Abba, Mr. Smitmans described the discussions with the President of the Republic as "important and fruitful." He welcomed the "consolidation of energy cooperation relations between Latin America, the Caribbean, and Algeria."

"We are convinced that we have vast areas for common cooperation. Algeria has been an observer member of our organization for 25 years, and today we have identified several opportunities within an energy context marked by numerous challenges and significant instability," he continued, reiterating that Algeria is a "key player in the global energy agenda."

He further noted that energy security "is a key element in this context, given that natural gas is an energy source that ensures the stability of electricity markets and remains an essential vector for cooperation between Latin America, the Caribbean, and Algeria." He described bilateral cooperation as "very fruitful" in the fields of new technologies, particularly green hydrogen and energy storage in electricity markets—areas, he said, where "we can progress together."

Finally, he reiterated the interest of the organization, which comprises 27 countries, in "moving forward with cooperation with the countries of the South.
