Belgian cyclist Santi Arne Patrick, of the Tartiletto-Isorex team, won the fifth stage of the 26th edition of the Tour d’Algérie on Tuesday. the race was contested on a closed circuit in the wilaya of Mostaganem over a distance of 132.2 km.
This stage, marked by high speed and tactical maneuvering, was intensely fought, particularly in the final meters before the finish line. Santi Arne Patrick secured the victory and also earned the blue jersey, finishing ahead of Algerian Hamza Yacine (Madar Team) in second place and South African Basson Gustav (Chienolo Team) in third.
Although he finished seventh in this stage, Belgian Lauryssen Yorben—also of the Tartiletto-Isorex team—maintained his lead in the general classification. He held the yellow leader’s jersey for the fifth consecutive day, as well as the green jersey for the best sprinter.
The orange jersey for the most aggressive rider of the stage was awarded to Tunisian national team rider Dellaï Mohamed Aziz. The polka dot jersey for the best climber went to Indonesia’s Abderrahmane Mohamed of the Jakarta team.
The white jersey for the best young rider (under 23) was awarded to South African Erasmus Alexander (Chienolo Team), while Algerian Hamza Yacine secured the black jersey as the best Algerian rider of the stage.
The fifth stage, held as a closed circuit in the wilaya of Mostaganem over 132.2 km, was completed by the main peloton in 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 20 seconds.
The riders, representing various clubs and national selections, maintained a sustained pace, especially since the course on the Mostaganem plateau was fast and open. This provided an ideal opportunity for riders to shine and decide the race in the final meters through speed and agility.
The route, which included two intermediate sprints and one mountain point, passed through several municipalities such as Sayada, Mansoura, and Oued El Kheir, reaching the borders of the wilaya of Relizane before returning toward Mostaganem. This allowed the riders to enjoy a scenic natural setting featuring forests, streams, and the Cheliff Valley.
As a reminder, the 2026 edition of the Tour d’Algérie consists of ten stages covering a total distance of 1,697.7 km, under the supervision of an international jury chaired by Spain's Jorge Gual Martinez.
Following this fifth stage, the riders will compete on Wednesday in the sixth stage, linking Mostaganem to Ténès (in the wilaya of Chlef) over a distance of 155.2 km.
This upcoming stage is distinguished by its coastal character, combining speed, tactics, and diverse open terrains, offering opportunities for breakaways and gaps between the competitors.
