Twenty (20) athletes will represent Algeria at the 19th African Artistic Gymnastics Championships (men and women), scheduled to take place from April 23 to 26 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the Algerian Gymnastics Federation (FAG) announced Wednesday.
This African rendezvous is of particular importance for the Algerian national team, especially for the women’s side, where all eyes will be on Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour. A true star of world gymnastics, Nemour has excelled in the last three stages of the World Cup, particularly on her two favorite apparatuses: the uneven bars and the balance beam.
The Olympic champion will also be tasked with leading a young and promising women's team toward a continental podium, with the goal of securing qualification for the 2026 World Championships.
In addition to Algeria, the African event in Yaoundé will bring together 11 other national teams from the continent: Cameroon (host country), Egypt, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Tunisia, Mali, Zimbabwe, Togo, Morocco, and Senegal.
