The exceptional revision of electoral lists in preparation for the legislative elections scheduled for July 2 will conclude this Sunday.
This operation, launched on April 12, follows the signing of a presidential decree by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, convening the electorate for July 2, 2026, for the election of members of the National People's Assembly (APN).
The exceptional revision of electoral lists took place under positive conditions, as noted by the Interim President of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), Karim Khelfane, in a previous statement.
He specified that during this period, ANIE expanded its use of digitalization to modernize the electoral process, strengthen transparency, and simplify procedures for citizens. To this end, several digital platforms were created to ensure the organization and monitoring of the upcoming legislative elections. These include a portal for electronic services allowing citizens to register on electoral lists, request removal, correct personal data, or change their place of residence.
To enhance the use of digital data and guarantee the integrity of the electoral process, ANIE established a centralized data center for real-time monitoring of the various phases of the electoral operation. This began with the exceptional revision of lists across 1,541 communes (municipalities), as well as at diplomatic and consular representations abroad, under the supervision of commissions chaired by judges.
Furthermore, ANIE has continuously addressed the concerns of political parties and various stakeholders. For this purpose, it created an electronic link to provide immediate answers to all inquiries and concerns regarding the electoral process, Mr. Khelfane added.
The exceptional revision of electoral lists targeted unregistered citizens, those who will reach the age of 18 by the day of the vote, and those who have changed their place of residence, as previously recalled by ANIE.
Parallel to this revision period, political parties and independent candidates have begun withdrawing signature collection forms from ANIE’s headquarters, its Wilaya delegations, or diplomatic and consular representations.
Candidacy dossiers must be submitted no later than 45 days before the date of the election. At that stage, the Authority will conduct a legal review of the files to ensure they meet candidacy requirements, including the new provisions of the organic law on the electoral system. It will then issue reasoned decisions of acceptance or rejection, allowing candidates whose files are rejected the opportunity to file an appeal.
It is worth noting that following amendments to the Constitution and the electoral law, ANIE is responsible for the supervision, control, preparation, organization, and management of the entire electoral operation for the July 2 legislative elections. Logistical aspects are handled by the administration, which is required to provide the Independent Authority with all necessary material resources.
