The Algerian national wrestling team secured seven medals (3 gold and 4 silver) during the first day of the African Wrestling Championships for under-17s (U17), currently held in Egypt from April 26 to May 2.
The gold medals were earned by Houssam Eddine Bouha (48 kg), Lyes Boumaaza (51 kg), and Hodifa Boutarfaia (71 kg) in the Greco-Roman wrestling discipline.
The silver medals were claimed by Benamar El Baraa (60 kg), Taha Menasria (92 kg), Bachir Bouchibi (65 kg) in Greco-Roman wrestling, and Meriem Ghrieb (43 kg) in women’s wrestling.
Algeria is represented by a delegation of 53 wrestlers across various age categories (U17, U20, and Seniors), competing in Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Women's wrestling disciplines. The national athletes aim to achieve positive results, reach the podiums, and honor the national flag in this major continental event.
