On the sidelines of his participation in the 2nd International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) in New York, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaïb, held a series of bilateral talks with several senior officials.*
Chaïb met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar; the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Bart van den Brink; the Vice-Minister for Diaspora Affairs and Human Mobility of the Republic of El Salvador, Patricia Nathaly Godínez; and the Undersecretary of the Department of Migrant Workers of the Republic of the Philippines, Jainal T. Rasul Jr.
These meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on migration issues and diaspora affairs, review relevant national experiences, and explore ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Discussions also focused on developing coordination mechanisms and the exchange of expertise in this field.
Furthermore, the Secretary of State met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope. During the meeting, both parties commended the level of cooperation between Algeria and the organization, emphasizing the need to continue joint efforts to promote comprehensive migration governance and enhance international coordination mechanisms.
