The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, addressed a message on the occasion of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Student's Day, corresponding to May 19, 1956. In it, he affirmed the Algerian State's pride in its youth and students, recalling the sacrifices made by Algerian students during the Liberation Revolution after joining the ranks of the National Liberation Army. In the same context, he praised the reforms witnessed by the higher education and scientific research sector, as well as the pivotal role of the university in keeping pace with technological and economic transformations and in building a modern Algeria.

Here is the translation of the message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Student's Day (May 19, 1956):

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of messengers,

I am pleased, on the occasion of Student's Day (May 19), to renew the expression of our pride in the youth and students in the lecture halls of universities, institutes, and higher schools. I also extend this pride to the members of the higher education and scientific research family—experts, professors, and supervisors—who are working to elevate the quality of education and training, develop scientific research, and link the university's scientific and cognitive output to economic activity and public life.

The Algerian people, who are proud of you, the youth of the Nation, and of your loyalty to sacrifices that history preserves as glories for generations, pause at every historical milestone before glimpses of pride and honor. On this occasion, it gives us pause—in the truest image—before a generation that, on May 19, 1956, propelled groups of Algerian students inside and outside the country to join the Liberation Army in support positions and on the battlefields.

Those students, the children of struggling Algeria at the time, were—in the context of that historical circumstance—a privileged group. However, with their true mettle, they chose freedom and dignity over the temptations of status and privilege, thus attaining glory and immortality.

They are immortal through their renewed memory. You are the best successors to them as you pave your way to success within the halls of a university that is a partner in transformations, keeping pace with technology and knowledge. The State allocates huge annual budgets for it, and its infrastructure has been reinforced—in recent years—with numerous achievements: specialized higher schools, integrated university hubs, and increasing support for funding scientific research, creativity, and innovation. This affirms the State's keenness to invest in the sector, ensure its sustainability, and integrate the university into a modern, productive economy. This is achieved by attracting competence and expertise, providing an encouraging climate for university elites, and valuing the contribution of knowledge in empowering the pillars of the modern State.

We are fully confident that the students and youth sense the magnitude of the reforms witnessed by the higher education and scientific research sector, as well as the strides our country has made in other sectors, fulfilling the covenant with the proud Algerian people and the righteous martyrs. I recall with you on this 70th anniversary of Student's Day—with reverence and exaltation—their sacrifices, and on this occasion, we humbly pray for their pure souls.

'Long Live Algeria'

Glory and eternity to our righteous martyrs.

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you."
