On behalf of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defence, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, General Saïd Chanegriha, oversaw this Thursday evening the official installation of Major General Mounir Zahi as Director General of Internal Security, succeeding Major General Abdelkader Ait Ouarabi, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defence.
The statement read: "On behalf of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of National Defence, and in accordance with the presidential decree dated May 18, 2026, I officially install Major General Mounir Zahi as Director General of Internal Security, succeeding Major General Abdelkader Ait Ouarabi."
The General added: "Accordingly, I order you to work under his authority, obey his orders, and execute his instructions as dictated by the interest of the service, in implementation of the current military rules and regulations and the laws of the Republic, and in loyalty to the sacrifices of our righteous martyrs and in commemoration of the values of our glorious revolution."
The statement added that "this occasion was an opportunity for the General to issue a series of instructions and directives to the cadres of this sensitive directorate, urging them to exert more dedicated efforts in service of the nation and to commit fully and thoroughly to carrying out the assigned tasks with all the necessary strictness and essential perseverance."

Following this, the General oversaw the ceremony of ratifying the handover report before signing the Golden Book of the Directorate General of Internal Security, according to the statement.
