The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ekperikpe Ekpo, has begun a working visit to Algeria. This visit is within the framework of the fifth ministerial meeting of the Steering Committee for the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project, which will be held this Wednesday in Algiers, in the presence of the hydrocarbon ministers of Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria, according to a statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.
The Nigerian minister and his accompanying delegation were received at the VIP lounge of Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mr. Mohamed Arkab.
The Nigerian official's visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation including officials and executives from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), falls within the framework of continued coordination and consultation between the three fraternal countries—Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria. According to the same source, it aims to propel the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project into more advanced stages and bring this strategic project to fruition, as it stands as one of the most vital structured energy projects on the African continent.
The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline represents a strategic pillar for strengthening African energy integration and supporting the security of supplies to regional and international markets, in addition to its contribution to achieving economic and social development for the countries involved.
It also falls within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) as one of the structural continental projects aimed at enhancing African integration, optimizing the use of energy resources, and supporting energy security and sustainable development across the continent, the ministry emphasizes.
