The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, announced this Wednesday in Niamey that the foundation stone for a 40-megawatt power plant project will be laid in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, in the coming days. The project will be carried out by Sonelgaz International as part of the company's expansion of its activities at the continental level.

The Minister's statement came on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony for the 40-megawatt Algerian-Nigerien Solidarity Power Plant in the Gorou Banda area of the Nigerien capital, Niamey. The ceremony was led, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, alongside his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

In this context, Mr. Adjal expressed his satisfaction with the completion and delivery of the power plant project in Niamey, emphasizing that this achievement serves as proof of Sonelgaz International's capability to execute major energy projects outside national borders within the specified deadlines.

He added that the company has initiated preparations for new projects in several African countries, foremost among which is the 40-megawatt power plant project in Chad, the foundation stone of which will be laid in the next few days.

The Minister also revealed a growing demand for the expertise of Sonelgaz International from various African nations, including Côte d'Ivoire and Mozambique. He highlighted that these projects fall within major energy programs that the company will seek to bring to fruition, leveraging its technical expertise and its ability to reduce completion timelines.

Mr. Adjal emphasized that Sonelgaz International will serve as a locomotive for Algerian public and private enterprises by involving them in the various stages of project execution under the value chain principle, thereby strengthening the presence of national competencies and companies in African markets.

Algeria and Chad had signed an agreement last May to construct the power plant in the Chadian capital, in a step aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries. This comes to implement the directives of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which aim to support African nations and promote South-South cooperation.
