The proceedings of the 77th session of the Trans-Saharan Road Liaison Committee began this Monday in Algiers. The opening ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, in the presence of the Wali of Algiers, Mohamed Abdenour Rabhi; the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri; and the Secretary-General of the Committee, Mohamed Ould Mohammedi, in addition to representatives of the Committee's member countries.
The agenda will focus on the prospects of transforming this African road into an economic corridor contributing to development and economic integration among the six countries crossed by the Trans-Saharan Road.
This road consists of a main axis extending over 4,500 km from Algiers to Lagos, connected to other branches: from Ghardaïa to Tunisia (2,000 km), from Bamako to Tamanrasset (2,500 km), and from Zinder (Niger) to N'Djamena (2,200 km).
