The Geneva Group for the Support of Western Sahara organized a meeting today, Tuesday, in Geneva, titled "Western Sahara and the Right to Self-Determination: Challenges to International Legality."
The meeting witnessed wide participation from diplomatic delegations representing African, Asian, European, and Latin American countries supporting the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, alongside the presence of human rights activists, experts, and representatives of civil society organizations.
Participants in the meeting included Oubi Buchraya Bachir, Advisor to the Sahrawi Presidency in charge of natural resources and related legal issues; Manuel Hintz, Professor of International Law; Malainin Lakhal, Deputy Representative of the Sahrawi Republic to Ethiopia and the African Union; in addition to Mara Crevelenti, a researcher in international relations.
During the presentations, it was emphasized that the Sahrawi cause falls within the framework of decolonization in accordance with international law, and that it remains listed under the agenda of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.
The presentations also stressed the legitimacy of the Sahrawi people's demands and their inalienable right to self-determination, based on the rules of international law and relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
