The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, chaired on Monday the meeting of the Liaison Committee for the Trans-Saharan Fiber-Optic Backbone Project, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives of the project's partner countries and heads of the relevant national bodies and institutions, represented "an important milestone in assessing the progress of this strategic project, discussing its technical and regulatory aspects, and exploring ways to strengthen coordination and cooperation among the various participating parties to ensure its objectives are met under the best conditions," according to the same statement.
In this context, Mr. Zerrouki emphasized that the Trans-Saharan Fiber-Optic Backbone Project "is one of the most prominent digital interconnection projects on the African continent, as it provides a modern infrastructure that helps improve telecommunications services and enhance data flow among the involved nations, thereby supporting economic and social development and supporting the digital transformation taking place in the region."
The minister also highlighted that this project "embodies the spirit of cooperation and solidarity among African nations, reflecting a shared will to build an integrated digital space that helps bridge the digital divide and foster regional integration." He reaffirmed "Algeria's commitment to continue supporting initiatives aimed at developing digital infrastructure and strengthening African partnership in the field of information and communication technologies."
During the meeting, participants stressed the importance of "continuing joint efforts to ensure the completion of the various phases of the project and maximize its contribution to enhancing digital connectivity and sustainable development in the region," the statement added.
